Workshops
Another hands-on workshop where we were introduced to the basics of cyanotype printmaking – one of the fisrt photographic printmaking process discovered in 1842 using watercolor paper, cyanotype paint and UV or sun-light.
The workshop started with an introduction by our tutor Alexandros from Aspalathos Art Space to the history of cyanotype, some of the different techniques that are possible with the cyanotype process and some of the artistis that have used it as their medium.
First step was to learn how to prepare a photograph to create a cyanotype negative and then the process of measuring and blending the chemicals to coat the paper. After applying the coat to the paper and let it dry we explored various methods for exposing the paper to UV light whether by using the photograph negatives or alternative objects such us leaves, strings etc.
Of course the most fun part was when we developed the print by diving our papers into the water and let them dry after that. Sometimes the results were predicable, sometimes they were not, however we definitely enjoyed the whole process!
The workshop series is a series of creative workshops varying from paper making and lettering to collage, linocut printmaking, silkscreen printing and much more that we run at our office in a regular basis. Through these workshops we want to explore our creativity using more hands-on practices and develop processes for understanding, developing and supporting mutual learning between our team.
